 Welcome to Year 4

These pages are designed to provide parents and guardians with helpful general information about Year 4 and to share further information with you about the terms ahead.  Each term we will send out further information to you specific to that upcoming period.  This information is also available in the term sections below.   Should you have any further queries you are, of course, always welcome to book an appointment at the school office to see your child’s teacher at any time.
Equipment List
Please remember to name everything that you bring into school
  • 2 A4 Document Wallet / Foolscap (for unfinished work etc.)
  • Clear 30cm Ruler (not flexible)
  • Several HB pencils and colouring pencils
  • Eraser
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • Scissors & Glue Stick
  • Small pocket Dictionary & Thesaurus (named)
Games & P.E.
All sports wear should be clearly named.
 Your child must have: a plain navy t-shirt and shorts, trainers or plimsolls, football or hockey boots with soft studs, shin pads and knee high socks, a swimming costume or trunks (not shorts) and a swimming cap.  You may like to provide your child with a plain navy tracksuit and some spare sports socks.
Homework will be set on Fridays.
On Friday spelling words will be set.  There will be spelling, table tests and/or mental maths each Friday.  Information about homework set will be available on the Year 4 section of the school website as well as being recorded in a homework diary.
Also on Friday Mental Arithmetic books and Literacy Homework will be handed out, to be returned on Wednesday with one test completed (unless stated otherwise).  Please ensure MA books are covered in sticky back plastic to preserve them from damage.
On occasions an additional piece of work will be set at the discretion of the class teacher.
Your child should be encouraged to read for at least half an hour daily.  Your child’s reading should be recorded in their Reading Record books.  These are to be handed in every Wednesday.   A recommended reading list is available on the Year 4 section of the website.
